Editorial standards and editors’ picks
Who chooses editors' picks and how, what a pick changes, how sponsored content and sensitive topics are handled, and how to question an editorial decision.
Muhamor is written by its members. The team moderates, picks a few publications for attention and keeps advertising separate; when it publishes something itself, it is signed by a real person or as “Muhamor editorial”. This page describes how those editorial decisions are made.
Who picks
Editors' picks are chosen by global moderators — people who work for the platform, not community moderators and not an algorithm. A moderator cannot pick their own publication, and sponsored publications can never be picked. Every pick and every removal of a pick is recorded in the moderation log with the moderator's account. The decision belongs to the platform, so the mark says “Editors' pick” rather than a moderator's name.
What we look for
A pick is a publication that a reader from any community would be glad to find. We look for:
- First-hand experience. The author did the thing, tried the product, made the move — and says what went wrong as well as what worked.
- Specifics. Numbers, dates, versions, prices, steps. “It depends” is fine when it is followed by what it depends on.
- Honesty about limits. The author says where their experience ends and what they did not check.
- A good discussion. Useful answers, corrections the author accepted, a helpful answer marked.
- Respect for the rules. No hidden advertising, no undisclosed affiliate links, no attacks on people.
Popularity alone is not a reason: a pick can be a quiet publication with three replies. Topic is not a reason either — picks come from every community, whatever its language.
What a pick changes
- The publication gets the editors' pick mark in feeds and on its page and may appear in the “Editors' picks” list on the home page.
- It gets a small, fixed bonus in “Trending” sorting (5 points in the trending score), which fades with age like everything else.
- The author gets 30 points once per publication.
A pick does not change the author's trust level and is not a statement that the content is professionally verified.
Advice on health, money, law and safety
Members share personal experience, not professional advice. Communities on sensitive topics — health, money, law, relocation, safety, relationships — show their rules under every publication together with a reminder to check official sources and talk to a qualified specialist. Picks in these communities need extra care: we do not pick publications that promise results, push a specific financial product or replace medical or legal help.
Search engines and new authors
Publications by members below level L2 are not shown to search engines at first. They become visible to search when the author reaches L2, or earlier when a community moderator releases them; a moderator can also keep a publication out of search. Both decisions are logged. See trust levels.
Sponsored content
Sponsored publications are always labelled, placed by topic and never targeted at you personally. Advertisers do not choose editors' picks, cannot buy one and cannot remove critical comments. The advertising policy has the details.
Disagree with an editorial decision?
Write to hello@muhamor.com, include the link and say what you think is wrong — a pick you think breaks these standards, or a publication you think deserves one. A person answers. Sanctions have their own route: sanctions and appeals.
