Points say “thank you for being useful”. They are not money — you can't withdraw, transfer or buy them — and they are not reputation: your trust level grows separately.

What points do

  • The leaderboard. The leaderboard ranks members by usefulness points for the week, the month and all time. Only points for usefulness count, minus penalties. You can hide yourself from it in your privacy settings.
  • Badges for steady help. A week with at least 5 points counts as a helpful week. 4 helpful weeks in a row earn the "Steady glow" badge, 12 earn "Evergreen". See your badges.

There is nothing to buy with points, and they never change your trust level or your limits. That is on purpose: points show who has been useful, and nothing more.

Your balance and history are in the points wallet.
