Community rules
Muhamor is a community platform for every topic, for people from any country. You can write in any of 31 languages; the interface is in English and Russian. These rules explain what we expect from everyone, how limits and moderation work, and what you can do if you disagree with a decision. All numbers on this page come directly from the platform configuration, so they always match what the software actually does.
1. Basic principles
- Share your own experience and say where it comes from. If you quote someone, link the source.
- Argue with ideas, not with people. Insults, harassment and threats are not allowed.
- Pseudonyms are welcome. Publishing other people's private data (doxxing) is not.
- Guests can read all public content. To publish, comment and vote you need an account with a confirmed email address.
- Protective limits cannot be bought. Premium only adds convenience features.
2. Trust levels
What you can do grows with useful activity. Trust levels are calculated automatically; a moderator can lower a level when it is abused.
| Level | How to get it | What it allows |
|---|---|---|
| Guest | — | Read public communities, search, switch language, report illegal content |
| Spore (L0) | Registration without a confirmed email | Read, set up the profile, bookmark. No publishing or commenting |
| Sprout (L1) | Confirmed email | Publish and comment within strict limits; publications and comments with links are reviewed before they appear |
| Young mushroom (L2) | 3 days since registration, at least 10 comments or 2 publications, at least 5 upvotes from different members of level L2 or higher, no active sanctions | Normal limits, links without pre-moderation, reports carry more weight |
| Mighty mushroom (L3) | 30 days since registration, at least 20 positively rated publications and comments, no sanctions in the last 30 days | Highest limits, can apply to publish paid articles, helps moderation by flagging spam |
Votes from L0–L1 accounts and from accounts linked to yours (shared device or network) do not count towards promotion.
3. Limits
Limits protect conversations from flooding and spam. They are counted per account and additionally per device and network, so new accounts cannot be used to get around them. When you reach a limit, the site tells you how much is left and when it resets.
| Action | Sprout L1 | Young mushroom L2 | Mighty mushroom L3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Publications per day | 2 | 5 | 10 |
| Minimum interval between comments | 60 s | 20 s | 5 s |
| Comments per hour | 15 | 60 | 120 |
| Links per publication, comment or message | 0* | 3 | 10 |
| Image uploads per day | 10 | 50 | 200 |
| Reports per day | 5 | 20 | 50 |
| New private conversations per day | 3 | 20 | 50 |
* A Sprout’s (L1) publications and comments with links appear after a moderator reviews them. Links in private messages open at L2.
A Mighty mushroom (L3) with Premium can publish up to 20 publications per day. Guests can send up to 5 illegal-content notices per day.
4. What is not allowed
- Spam: repeated or near-identical messages, mass links, hidden or undisclosed advertising. Paid promotion is only possible through our advertising products.
- Illegal content under EU or Estonian law, including incitement to violence or hatred, child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, copyright infringement and fraud.
- Harassment, threats, insults, discrimination and publishing other people's personal data.
- Impersonating other people or organisations, and creating several accounts to vote, argue or get around sanctions.
- Malware, phishing and links that hide where they lead.
- Presenting generated or copied texts as your own experience. Medical, financial and legal claims need sources and a clear statement of their limits.
5. How spam is detected
The system adds up risk points over a sliding window of 120 minutes. When an account reaches 10 points, a sanction is triggered.
| Signal | Points |
|---|---|
| Almost identical text (similarity 90% or more) in 3+ publications or comments | 5 |
| Hitting the hourly comment limit | 2 each time |
| A publication or comment hidden by a moderator as spam | 5 |
| A spam report from an L2+ member (different reporters) | 2 each |
| Links to the same domain in 3+ publications or comments from a newcomer | 4 |
| A forbidden link or word filter matched | 3 |
Automatic sanctions are currently in test mode: signals only go to moderators, and no one is blocked automatically. This lets us catch false positives before they affect honest people.
6. Sanctions
Sanctions escalate step by step. The violation counter resets after 30 days without violations.
| Violation within 30 days | Sanction | Who decides |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Warning and slowdown: comment interval ×5 for 2 hours | Automatically |
| 2 | Write ban for 12 hours | Automatically |
| 3 | Write ban for 1 day | Automatically |
| 4 | Write ban for 7 days | Automatically, moderators are notified |
| 5 | Permanent ban | Only a human moderator |
Obvious advertising spam from L0–L1 accounts (casinos, crypto schemes, mass links) is an exception: the account is blocked immediately, and a moderator confirms or reverses the decision within 24 hours.
- A write ban does not stop you from reading. Your bookmarks, follows and communities stay.
- You always see the reason, the rule, the duration and the specific messages that led to a sanction. Automated decisions are marked as automated.
- You can appeal within 180 days (about six months) after the decision. The appeal is reviewed by a different moderator than the one who made the decision. A sanction lifted on appeal does not count towards the ladder.
- Every moderation action is logged with its reason. Sanctions are never sold.
- Community moderators can hide content and issue sanctions of up to 7 days in their community. Longer sanctions are issued by global moderators.
7. Points and reputation
Points reward usefulness. They are not money: they cannot be withdrawn, transferred or bought.
| Event | Points |
|---|---|
| Upvote on your publication (from L2+, not from a linked account) | +2 |
| Upvote on your comment | +1 |
| Your comment is marked as a helpful answer by the publication's author | +10 |
| Your publication is selected by the editors | +30 |
| Your report is confirmed by a moderator (up to 10 per day) | +3 |
| Your publication is hidden as spam or a violation (points earned for it are revoked) | -20 |
You can earn at most 100 points per day. Posting more messages or simply visiting the site earns nothing. Reputation is shown separately for each community and is never spent.
8. Machine translation
Publications and comments can be machine translated between any of the 31 languages we support, into the reading language each reader chooses. Translations are always labelled, show the date and let you open the original. Machine translation can change the meaning, especially in medical, financial and legal topics — check the original before relying on it. If you notice a mistake, use “Suggest a fix” under the translation. Content from private communities is never sent to external translation services.
9. Reporting
Every publication and comment has a “Report” button. Anyone, including guests, can report illegal content; other reports are available to members from L1. How notices of illegal content are handled is described on the illegal content reporting page.
10. Publishing
These rules keep Muhamor useful to read. Moderators apply them; breaking them can get a publication hidden and, if repeated, a sanction from section 6.
- The right place and an honest title. Post in the community and category the topic belongs to. The title says what the publication is about — no clickbait, no all-caps.
- One question, one publication. Search before you ask. Duplicates of an open discussion may be hidden with a link to it. The same text may go to at most 3 communities, and only where it is on topic.
- Self-promotion. Your own products, channels, services or fundraisers may make up at most 10% of your publications and comments, and you always say they are yours. Paid promotion goes through our advertising products.
- Generated text. If a substantial part of a publication was written by an AI tool, say so at the start. Generated text must never be presented as your own experience.
- Votes. Asking for votes, trading votes, or voting from several accounts is vote manipulation and leads to a sanction. Vote for what is useful, not for who wrote it.
- Sensitive content. Sexually explicit content and gratuitous graphic violence are not allowed. Mark spoilers for recent films, series, books and games at the start of the title, for example “[spoiler]”.
- Polls and links. Word polls neutrally and make the options cover the likely answers; do not use polls to collect personal data. When you share a link, say what is behind it.
