The ladder

Sanctions grow step by step and the counter resets after 30 days without violations:

  1. A warning and a slowdown (longer pauses between comments).
  2. A short write ban — hours, not days.
  3. A longer write ban.
  4. A write ban for a week; moderators are notified.
  5. A permanent ban — only ever decided by a human.

A ban stops you from writing. You can still read, keep your bookmarks and download your data. The exact durations are listed in the community rules.

Statement of reasons

For every restriction you get a notice and an email explaining what was restricted, which rule it is based on, the facts, whether automation was involved and how to appeal. Your active restrictions are always listed on the restrictions page.

How to appeal

Open the statement and press Appeal. Explain calmly why you think the decision is wrong. You have 180 days.

  • The appeal is reviewed by a different moderator than the one who made the decision.
  • If it is overturned, the sanction is lifted and does not count towards the ladder.
  • If you still disagree, you may turn to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under the Digital Services Act.
