Flexible dates and nearby airports are the two that still help most in my view. Shifting a trip by a day or two, and checking a second airport within reasonable reach, can change the price more than the day of the week you book on. I would also compare the total price, including bags and seat selection, before choosing the cheapest headline fare, and check the airline’s own site for the same route once an aggregator shows a good option.
